Happy New Year 2011

Wesley Chapel and Tampa Premier Children Photography Studio – Ringing in 2011

As I watch countless hours of football this weekend, Go Gators!, I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year.

2010 was an incredible year in the studio. We saw dozens of new babies born, families uniting, children growing and a few pets barking! Through the support of our friends and customers we had our best year in business.

Thank you to everyone who helped make 2010 the year that it was. I am looking forward to all the possibilities that 2011 hold and can’t wait to share the fun and excitement with all of you!

For those of you who have ordered portrait albums or collages from us, you know I am a quote junkie … here is one of my favorites when thinking of goal planning and resolutions! I am a dreamer, so this one fits me well.

“Nothing will ever be attempted if all possible objections must first be overcome.
–Samuel Johnson

It is January 1st 2011, and I have made some resolutions and I thought I would share a few with you.

I resolve to:

  • Be a more active portrait session blogger. I know you guys enjoy seeing various sessions from the studio and I will post more often. I promise!
  • Get more organized. This doesn’t mean I will be inviting anyone with open arms in to the office, because after all I am an artist and create my best work with my desk in a state of chaos.
  • Actually take my Tuesday afternoons off to spend with my daughter at her dance class and whatever other girly mother-daughter things we want to do.
  • Get out of the studio more and network with my fellow businesses in Wesley Chapel and beyond. I am a Wesley Chapel Chamber Ambassador and want to help promote local businesses more than I did in 2010.
  • Get in touch with my inner child everyday so that when I am photographing your children they will have fun and think I am silly and worthy of a good giggle!
  • Donate more to charitable efforts. God blessed me with a gift to create memories and experiences for families. I want to share this gift with those who otherwise could not afford it.

Well it is back to watching some more football. I hope you all enjoy your weekend and we will be back in full force at the studio on Monday!

Happy New Year!

A Florida Christmas has begun!

Wesley Chapel and Tampa’s Children Photography Studio – Children’s Christmas Portraits

Yesterday we kicked off our second series of Limited Edition Sets. Did I say we had 600 pounds of sand? I meant we really have almost 1000 pounds! Wow … that was a fun Saturday evening loading all that in to the studio. HA! The harder part will be unloading it Wednesday night. But that is still 3 days away and we are enjoying every minute of photographing on this set. Mr. Sandman’s nose survived the entire day! That is a vast improvement over last year where several kids yanked it off. Lets keep our fingers crossed for the rest of the week!

Each session yesterday was amazing. The kids had a great time playing in the sand … even if at first they were apprehensive about getting their toes in to it. By the end of each session, every child was getting down and digging with their shovels. Luckily, unlike the real beach … our sand is dry, so it is easy to wipe off. Although I do think there were a few babies that needed a bath or two :)

If you haven’t booked your session yet, we do have some times available on Tuesday and Wednesday. Call 813-994-4552. The session fee is only $35 and packages start at $95. Won’t you have fun designing your Christmas Cards with a true “Florida Christmas” design?

Here are a few teaser images from yesterday.

And lets not forget the ever popular “tea stained” effect we can do to these images to give them a vintage feel!

I can’t wait for all the kids to come play in the sand with me today :)

Best Friend’s Baby Shower

Wesley Chapel and New Tampa’s Children Photography

I am deviating from my typical studio posts to write about my best friend’s baby shower! Since I was 13 I have had the same two best friends. We have done everything together: birthday parties, crying about boys, homework, college, national championship road trips,  roommates, weddings, career changes, and now babies! We have shared everything girlfriends could share.

Laura is the last one of the 3 of us to have a baby! So of course Cristie and I jumped on this opportunity to throw her the best baby shower ever!! She did make it challenging though … she absolutely refused to find out the gender of the baby, tell us the potential names or even the potential initials! We chose turquoise, lime green and hot pink for the colors, because it worked for both genders. Then Cristie and I each wore the color of the baby we are rooting for :) LOL

I flew up to Atlanta Saturday night for the shower on Sunday. Cristie’s husband was nice enough to take her two boys away for the night so we could get down to business decorating and preparing the food for the next day. Our plan was to decorate all night until we finished, but mother nature had different plans. There was a really bad storm and we lost power! So we did what all dedicated party planners do, we decorated via iPhone light until about midnight! When we couldn’t take it anymore, we went to sleep and waited for morning light.

I am completely obsessed with making my own party decorations. Pay special attention to the onsies we decorated. Laura better have the little baby wear my onsie!

Congratulations again Laura. We are so excited to meet the new baby! I hope our children are fortunate enough in their life to find as good as friends as I have found in the two of you. I love you both!! 20 years down … and many more to go!

Big Sister – Sneak Peek

Wesley Chapel and Tampa Children Photography Studio – Child Portrait Session

On Saturday it was Big Sister “B”‘s time to shine. She has been so amazing as we have photographed her baby sister in our Baby Steps baby plan. She comes quietly to the sessions, helps her mom and dad and stands with me while trying to make her little sister smile. Well Saturday was all about her! Miss B deserved her moment to shine and have fun in front of the camera on her own.

I love photographing this age. For girls it is such an impressionable time and I love helping them feel important, beautiful and spunky too :) While photographing I always get to talk with them about what they like and don’t like.

Lets see what I learned … Miss B likes:
- To eat her veggies
- Sponge Bob and Garfield
- Pizza with lots of cheese, in fact cheese on top of cheese is good (girl after my own heart)
- Ice Cream in any flavor, except for black been ice cream… that would be gross (and of course produced a great laugh!)

What Miss B doesn’t Like:
- fish on her pizza
- black been flavored ice cream
- Brussels sprouts and asparagus

Who does she love more? Hmmm I am not telling her answer!

She loves to dance and we had fun twirling around in her dresses and tutu.

I hope you guys enjoy your sneak peek! Hopefully it will tide you over until you come in for your ordering session!

Oh and one more thing … the Mets are better than the Yankees … just remember that :) HAHA

Yes … this is when I asked her if she liked black bean flavored ice cream! LOL

More from our Birthday Twins

Wesley Chapel and Tampa Child Photographer – Twin Birthday Portraits

Last Saturday I blogged an image from a Funtabulous Twin Birthday Session. I promised the mom I would post a few more sneak peeks before she comes in this weekend to view and order her images. How can I refuse when her daughters are so cute! I think photographing twins are my new favorite thing. I love getting the interactions between the siblings and being that they are the same age, they are doing the same sort of things, so it is really cute. It makes me want to have twins … well not quite, but close. LOL

As I had mentioned in the last post, I knew we wanted to do the cake portion of the session out doors. However, wind and heat would be our big challenges. Linda and I went to Publix to buy bags of rice to weight down the backdrop stands. (The background stands held up the pieces of flowing fabric you see in the background). Nothing would end a session quicker than if that fell over on the babies! Great thing about rice bags … you can eat them later and they are really cheap :) I also tried to weigh down the fabric so it wouldn’t blow so much in the wind … well that didn’t work as the fabric was flying throughout most of the session …. The wind outsmarted me. Luckily we were able to reset the fabric periodically and the flowy-ness added to the whimsical nature of the session.

It was hotter than you know what outside too. Mom and Dad kept the girls in the air conditioned car while we set everything up. I am sure it was quite amusing to watch us out there with a pair of scissors cutting down the really tall weeds :) Once we were ready to go, they brought the girls to the set. My biggest fear from the heat was either the balloons popping or the cake icing melting. I said a prayer to the guy upstairs before the session and lucky for me he answered and all went well!

I couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. The images in the studio were a lot of fun too! I love the onsies that Heidi had made for the girls. Who can pass up a cute image of the diaper butts?

Thank you Heidi for bringing your girls to the studio for their birthday session. It was a true pleasure photographing them and meeting your family! I can’t wait to watch them grow. Enjoy your sneak peeks!

Oh Ybor – How I love thee …

Wesley Chapel and Tampa Child Photographer – Ybor City Location Portrait Session

Did I mention I love to photograph in Ybor City? Hmmm I guess perhaps once or twice :) Every time I go down there it is a new adventure!

Here is a sneak peek from our latest Ybor Session with little Miss Isabella. She just turned 5 years old and this was her big celebration. We have photographed her baby brother in the studio several times, but this was her first solo session and she was LOVING it.

Five years old is such a great age because their personalities are really shining through. They have become little people and like to joke around, be serious, be silly, etc.

We had a great time walking around Ybor trying to get the session in before the rain started to come down on us. This session has been rescheduled twice due to weather, so we were bound and determined to get this done!!

I think her mommy did a great job with the clothing selections. I had a hard time choosing my favorite outfit! They were all super cute. Although I have to say the combination of sparkly high-tops with a tutu is hard to beat. The pouty expression with the Little Miss Sunshine dress cracks me up too!

My favorite session moment was about half way through … Isabella runs up to me and gives me a hug with the biggest smile saying “I want more pictures”.  Awe … that was so sweet. I love getting hugs from the kids! In fact I don’t even remember the fact that we had to bribe her with ice cream at the end for the last few images. LOL

This is only a few out of the many we took yesterday. I haven’t edited the entire session yet, put wanted to post a few to share. Enjoy!

Behind the Scenes – A 6 month Portrait Session

Wesley Chapel and Tampa’s Baby Photography Studio – A Six Month Baby Portrait Session

It is Monday (well, it is actually Tuesday but we were all sick yesterday) and time to release our latest Behind the Scenes Video. This video goes behind the scenes with a new little client named Isabelle. This is her first session with us and it is her 6 month milestone. This is such a great state to photograph a baby because they can sit up and interact with the silly noises I make from behind the camera.

Here is a funny note … I don’t normally wear lipstick during the day in the studio, but I figured, hmmm I should wear lipstick since we are videoing the session. Well, when it came time to make that popping noise I make with my lips to get babies to giggle, NOTHING came out of my mouth! The lipstick prevented me from making noises. Yikes! Wardrobe Malfunction! I had to go wipe off the lipstick before continuing with her session. Too funny … so now you know why I don’t wear a lot of makeup every day. LOL

Enjoy the video by viewing below or going to our YouTube Channel directly at www.youtube.com/photojeanine

Here are some of my favorite images captured during the session. Don’t forget to take notice of my orange/pink background that David made fun of me for buying. Next time you stop in the studio be sure to tell him how it totally made this session work! HAHA

Twins are Twice as Fun at Birthday Time!

Wesley Chapel and Tampa’s Baby and Children’s Photography – Twins First Birthday Portraits

This post is for all you mothers of twins! Although I think everyone will enjoy reading and viewing these adorable images.

I have been talking with Sabrina back and forth on Facebook since the middle of the summer. We hit it off from our very first post when I realized we bought the same dress for our daughters at Christmas. Kindred spirits for sure :) Or at least two women that share the same dress obsession!

Her twin daughters are a little past a year old (we won’t confess how far past) and she really wanted to capture the memory of their first birthday. Online we have tossed back and forth a few ideas and then she came in to chat further about clothing ideas, tutus (my favorite of course) and birthday themed items. Since they are older than 1 year and definitely walking, the cakes were going to be tough, so we decided to go for lollipops and balloons instead.

She went home and started to do some online shopping for tutu dresses and then to make unique shirts for their birthday images.  Her shirts were very clever. She bought plain t-shirts and then material from JoAnnes that had the iron-on transfer stuff on the back to create the “1″ on the shirt. This way she could customize it to her color scheme. VERY SMART IDEA!!!

As a wise mom, she also listened to my advice that the ONLY way to get 2 babies that are walking to stay in one place for a portrait is to occupy them. They are not going to just sit there and smile for us. Therefore she brought some of their favorite books to read to each other. I took care of the lollipops and balloons. Now all we had to do was make our planning a success :) Please God … let the twins be happy today! LOL

God smiled on us that day and we were able to capture a wide variety of images. I kept the pace pretty quick so that the twins wouldn’t get bored. So we started inside, then went outside, then came back inside to sugar them up at the end with the giant lollipops. (I am not stupid … I sugar them up at the end of the session, then send them home! HAHA)

Here are some of the favorites from the day. You can see our well laid out plan worked. Well there were a few “outtakes” in there too. LOL

Lets start with a little pleasure reading.

Then if we are lucky we can get them to look all sweet and “innocent”. Yep! Check that off the list :)

Now if we stick them in a giant flower pot, they can’t go anywhere. Right? Well maybe …
Can’t you just see the one sister saying “wait a second, this isn’t the sugary substance my mommy promised me today!”

Beware, babies are getting bored with us, time to go outside.

Another good rule of thumb, never let the babies out number the adults! Thankfully grandma came and was able to help lead the twin parade over the bridge. Aren’t these tutus adorable!

I always think it is important to recognize that while they are twins, they are still individuals. So in every twin session we try to get images of the baby by themselves.

Now back inside for those lollipops and balloons we promised the girls…

I couldn’t resist a little vintage effect … Look at those faces!

And there you have it! What a wonderful session. I had such a wonderful time getting to know these two little girls.

But wait … there’s more … I couldn’t leave you without giving you a few outtakes!

This has “mom she is trying to take my book” written all over it!

And this cry … signified the END of the session. LOL

How to Prepare for your Newborn Session

Wesley Chapel and Tampa’s Newborn Portrait Photographer

Our studio has been buzzing with new babies here this past month. Must be something in the water … or something happening about 9 months ago. HA!

When a soon-to-be mom is planning her newborn session with us, I am able to go over many details with her to prepare the family for the newborn session. Sometimes a family doesn’t think about wanting newborn portraits until that baby is born and the preparations for the session is rather rushed.

I just had to break up all this text with and adorable portrait!

I thought it may be helpful to do a blog posting with some helpful hints in planning for your newborn portrait session.

- This may be obvious to some by now, but I have to say it … the newborn portraits you see on my website and all over the internet are typically done before the baby is 2 weeks old. It is critical for them to be this young in order to get them to sleep through all the poses we create.

- We are coming in to our busiest season of the year. I highly recommend if you know you want to have newborn portraits done you call to let us know your projected due date. I can play with my calendar to ensure there is time reserved around your due date so that we don’t miss that magic time window.

- It is very important for your baby to have a full tummy prior to the beginning of the session. If you live near the studio, or the session is in your home, please feed the baby prior to the session beginning. If you live more than 45 minutes away, you may want to feed the baby at the studio in our children’s room.

- Make sure you get a good burp in! Gas is a terrible thing for anyone to experience … and your little one will cry like you have never heard if he/she has gas during their session.

- Bring an extra bottle of milk/formula to feed the baby should they get unexpectedly hungry. You would be surprised how much a baby can drink during a session. If you are breast feeding, you may want to bring a bottle of pumped milk in case you need some extra!

- We keep the studio a nice and toasty 80 degrees during these sessions to ensure the comfort of the baby. You know that means we adults will be sweating! So bring short sleeves to wear while you aren’t being photographed or you will be very uncomfortable.

- No need for clothing in the newborn session (for the baby that is, we prefer parents to arrive clothed!). Clothes tend to be too big and bunchy on the baby, and honestly what we are looking for in the art is the cuteness of smallness of the baby.

- Please bring blankets, hats, sentimental items, etc to photograph with your baby. We love to make your images personal and unique pieces of art. Sometimes this involves planning with me in advance for an idea. Oh darn, extra prop shopping. If you have a vision for a specific image, CALL ME! I love stepping outside the box to help you achieve the ideal newborn portrait.

- No matter what your baby does, know that I am always relaxed. I do this all the time and have seen everything. This session is supposed to be a special experience for you and I don’t want you stressed if the baby starts to cry. The baby can sense stress and it usually makes them cry more. We have plenty of time allowed for your session. If we need to take a break to feed, walk, rock, etc. we can do that.

Lastly, if you haven’t seen our Newborn Behind the Scenes Video, watch it now. It will give you a great idea of what goes on during one of our sessions.

I hope this helps all you soon-to-be moms out there to begin thinking about and planning for your newborn portraits. It is never too early to call and chat with us. There is nothing we enjoy more than chatting about babies!

What to do with all those party photos?

Wesley Chapel and New Tampa Children’s Photography – Portrait Party Box Idea

Let me lay out the scene for you …

You just finished throwing your child’s birthday party. You download all the photographs to your computer and realize you took over 200 photos. Then the emails start coming in from your friends and family who also took a ton of pictures. Your mind starts swimming around how in the world you are going to ever find the time to choose your favorites and scrapbook the party. Months go by. The images are still sitting on your computer, nothing is printed and you still have nothing but some pixels on your computer to remember the party! A year goes by … you finally decide to print out the pictures, but can’t remember the funny things your child said or did to come up with the perfect scrapbook pages. The frustration sets in, you are a bad mother, how could you have waited so long to document such an important birthday!

Are you feeling me? Been there? Done this?

If you are like me, you have all these grand plans of scrapbooking and sometimes you do it, and sometimes life gets in the way and you don’t.

For Eryn’s 3rd birthday this year I came up with a new idea and wanted to share it with you. If you were following Facebook yesterday, you saw a glimpse of it as I used the box for my drawing.

The lab I order the proof boxes from now has a thicker size! So I thought … HEY!!! I can print out every image I took from her party and put it in this box I designed to remember the event. Since it is nice and thick, I can also put in one of her birthday invitations, thank you note, napkin and thoughts I wrote down about the day.

Now the pressure is off on having to scrapbook every picture. I can look the box and pick a handful to do a few spreads. Much easier and much more likely to get done! Plus, even if I never scrapbook anything, I have her entire party in one box to always remember that special day.

If you love this idea, I would be happy to make a box for your child’s party. All I need is one or two photos for the front and back (or we could use something from their session), a color scheme and whatever you want to say. That is it! Then all you have to do is print your photos for a wonderful happy memory box.

The cost of this box is $175.
