Photographing my own child …

Wesley Chapel and Tampa’s Premier Child Photographer

Many clients come to me to photograph their kids, because, well lets face it, it is hard to photograph your own children! I thought it would be fun to create one of our Behind The Scenes Videos from a session of me photographing Eryn (my daughter). At 3 years old, it is no easy task to follow this little bundle of energy around a studio, let alone down in Ybor City. However, since I have done this for many of my clients, I was now jealous of the images I have created for them and wanted them for myself! I know it sounds silly, but it is true.  When I take off my photography studio owner hat, I am just a mom. A mom who wants the best portraits of my daughter not with just her “cheesy” smile but with all the expressions she makes that I have grown to love. I even found myself saying “Eryn that isn’t your real smile.” The one thing I criticize my own clients for saying! HAHA Actually I am probably harder on myself and Eryn than I am on anyone else, because I KNOW the possibilities of what a perfect session feels like and I just want that for me too.

So I invite you to watch this video and join me in the adventure of what it takes for me to photograph my own daughter. I did manage to keep my cool most of the time, (clever editing on the video! haha)

Oh and if you are coming her from Facebook to see who won the Valentine’s Day Random drawing …

The winner is Kate Robinson. You won a Starbucks Gift Card :) I will stick it in with your Valentine’s Day Order :)

Here is my favorite image from Eryn’s Session. I have this hanging in a gallery wrap canvas at home!

A Twin First Birthday – Behind the Scenes Video

Wesley Chapel and Tampa’s Premier Children’s Portrait Studio – A Twin First Birthday Session

Last fall I photographed the first birthday session for twin sisters. Their mom was awesome and completely open to my crazy suggestion of taking the girls outside despite the heat. I had this vision of doing a tea party for the birthday cake and thought that if we set up in a grassy field that we could end up with some unique, fun and girly-like photographs.

As many of you know I am completely obsessed with photographing multiples. Maybe it is my secret wish that I was a twin, or maybe it is wishful thinking that if I had twins there would have only been one pregnancy to deal with. Ha! Either way, I love coming up with unique session ideas for the twins and triplets that come to the studio. After talking with the moms, I know how important these First Birthday sessions are to them. As parents we get to experience all of the firsts with our children. For multiples these firsts are very special because they are experiencing them together. As they grow up and develop their own personalities and their own lives these precious moments of “firsts” will become even more important memories for the parents to have. Besides, honestly, how long with the children tolerate being dressed alike? LOL, so we must take advantage of that as long as we can!

Check out the Behind the Scenes Video we created from the session.

Behind the Scenes – A 6 month Portrait Session

Wesley Chapel and Tampa’s Baby Photography Studio – A Six Month Baby Portrait Session

It is Monday (well, it is actually Tuesday but we were all sick yesterday) and time to release our latest Behind the Scenes Video. This video goes behind the scenes with a new little client named Isabelle. This is her first session with us and it is her 6 month milestone. This is such a great state to photograph a baby because they can sit up and interact with the silly noises I make from behind the camera.

Here is a funny note … I don’t normally wear lipstick during the day in the studio, but I figured, hmmm I should wear lipstick since we are videoing the session. Well, when it came time to make that popping noise I make with my lips to get babies to giggle, NOTHING came out of my mouth! The lipstick prevented me from making noises. Yikes! Wardrobe Malfunction! I had to go wipe off the lipstick before continuing with her session. Too funny … so now you know why I don’t wear a lot of makeup every day. LOL

Here are some of my favorite images captured during the session. Don’t forget to take notice of my orange/pink background that David made fun of me for buying. Next time you stop in the studio be sure to tell him how it totally made this session work! HAHA

Behind the Scenes – Generations brought together

Wesley Chapel and New Tampa Family Portrait Photography – A Multi-Generational Portrait

Today I am releasing a new Behind the Scenes Video!

Our latest video features a Multi-Generation Family Portrait Session. These sessions are so important and bring me great joy as an artist to create. Not every child has the priviledge of getting to spend quality time with their grandparents. It is a passion of mine to create amazing experiences for the families who trust me with capturing their time together in a portrait.

This family called me a few weeks ago because they were all going to be together for the first time in 4 years! The last time they were together was for a wedding and since then there has been a few new family additions. With the number of people in the family, I knew we would have to schedule outdoors to create an artistic and amazing portrait. Everyone agreed to battle the heat for an hour to make this happen!

It was during this session that I was inspired to create our new Love Notes. I was so touched by everything Brenda had to say about her children and grandchildren. I thought it would be amazing if she had a way to share these feelings with her grandchildren so one day they could read the wonderful things their grandmother had to say about them.

I hope you all enjoy watching the video. The next time you have all your family in town, be sure to consider having a portrait made to capture the memories you created that day! Your children will thank you for it some day.

Behind The Scenes – A Funtabulous First Birthday

Wesley Chapel and Tampa’s Children’s Portrait Studio – First Birthday Portrait Session

It is Monday and it is time for the release of our latest Behind The Scenes Video. I am having such a blast filming these. The crew I am working with is amazing and I believe my clients are enjoying it too! At the end of the day not only are they receiving their portraits, but also an unbelievable video to remember their session and all the fun we had.

This video is from a recent First Birthday session. The baby has been in our Baby Steps Portrait Plan for the past year and this is her final session in the plan. Next she graduates in to our Small Wonders Club!

I hope you guys enjoy this video, as much as we enjoyed creating it! We LOVE photographing First Birthday sessions in the studio. You never know what is going to happen, so it always keeps us on our toes.

As always with HD video, you will find it much better to watch if you let the video stream all the way before you hit play.

You can see more Behind the Scenes videos at our YouTube Channel.

Behind the Scenes – Mud Pie Portraits

Wesley Chapel and New Tampa’s Children and Family Portraits – Father’s Day Special

The first weekend in June was our Mud Pie Father’s Day Special. Of course it also happened to be the hottest weekend of the year! The kids were lucky. They got to play in the mud and get hosed off. The adults on the other hand? I saw I few sneak a spray with the hose! LOL.

We photographed kids between 1 and 5 years old for this special and each age came with its own challenges. The younger babies weren’t too sure about the mud. The older kids we couldn’t get out of it! Whatever the situation, I know every parent walked away with the perfect gift for the season.

We had my fabulous video guru on hand in the morning to take some video of the first sessions. I thought it would be fun to create a Behind the Scenes Video from one of our set specials. I think his video camera was sweating!

I hope you guys enjoy watching the video. Leave a comment below and let me know your thoughts :)

I will be releasing more videos in the upcoming months … stay tuned!

Behind the Scenes – Newborn Session

Wesley Chapel and New Tampa Children and Family Photography – Newborn Portrait Session Video

Here is our latest released Behind the Scenes Video. This episode is filmed during a recent newborn session.  I love photographing newborn sessions for many reasons. It is the first opportunity a family has to capture the new addition to their lives. This new baby represents so much to them that it is a responsibility I take with great care and pride in capturing their first portraits.

Many ask why I say babies need to be less than 2 weeks old for a newborn session. If you remember when your child was that young, you remember the difference in how they sleep. The newer they are, the harder they sleep! That means we can mold them almost like clay in to lots of different creative positions to create that unique piece of art each family desires. Even with them being that small, there are still lots of tricks I keep up my sleeve to ensure a successful session every time.

Enjoy the video.
